Different emotions are expressed explicitly: Joy and cheer are expressed with peaceful handwriting and joyful talking. Anger and frustration are expressed with pessimistic handwriting and depressing talking.

Humans are emotionally complicated, sensitive and wealthy. Different emotions are expressed for different times, occasions, professions, ages, genders, etc. Hence calligraphy is a way of emotional expression as well. People's emotion could be cultivated through the perfection of his calligraphy. Through calligraphy technique, they could express their passion, their temperament, their spirit, which ensemble the inner me of themselves.

The following Sinological courses are offered by Art Division of Acht-Töne:

The one-to-one sinological course can be specifically adapted to students at different ages. According to the desire of students, specific materials from Confucian Analects and the book of odes. The teacher will customize the course schedules based on students‘ learning ability.

The sinology group course is given in a small class of three to five people, aiming at delivering basic calligraphic skills and relevant historic background. Using classic Chinese tales and allusions to discuss the traditional Chinese art. We would combine two representative parts of Chinese culture, sinology and calligraphy, to our students.

Hu Chang, teacher of calligraphy and Sinology

He was graduated from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, majoring in Electronic Engineering. Calligraphy is his biggest hobby. Affected by family, he has been imitating masterpiece since childhood, starting from Yan style and regular script. Later, he concentrated his attention to Ou style and “Er Wang Fa Shu”. His keenness motivated him to practice assiduously, and eventually developed his own style of handwriting. In addition to calligraphy, he has been studying sinology, especially in Zi and Ji. Confucius says,” Let the will be set on the path of duty, let relaxation and enjoyment be found in the polite arts.” Mr. Chang suggests that a man should cultivate his mind by reading and uplift his taste by calligraphing. Moreover, practicing calligraphy helps understanding Sinology. What completes the sinology-system is not only practicing calligraphy and studying classics, but also involving into literature, music, opera, painting. With this man could then cultivate his gentleness gradually.

Mr. Chang has worked at Emerson Electric and Japan's Fujifilm. He is currently a registered expert consultant of DGNB German Green Building Council. Now he worked as a part-time Chinese and calligraphy teacher for a Chinese school. His mission is to inspire others with traditional Chinese culture. In 2017, he started to work as a teacher of Sinology and a calligraphy at Acht-Töne International School of Music and Art.
